I provide advice in the following areas:
- Budgeting - Cash Management
- Debt Management - Direct Investment
- Financial Planning - Home Equity
- Investment Planning - KiwiSaver/Retirement
- Managed Funds
My approach involves reviewing my client’s current financial situation, identifying short, medium and long-term needs and goals and developing recommendations for meeting them.
I follow an internationally recognised six-step process in which I work closely with my clients to ensure recommendations are suitable for their unique circumstances. I aim to provide truly personal financial advice driven by my client’s individual needs and preferences.
I am completely independent of any product providers. Therefore any product solutions that I recommend are based on an objective analysis of the costs and benefits of the solutions and how they meet my client’s needs and goals. My intention is to select providers from the marketplace that are appropriate to the personal circumstances of the client. If clients have a unique set of needs they probably need a unique solution.
In providing my recommendations, I consider the following financial products:
Loan facilities.
Term deposits.
Cash or term PIE investments.
Call debt securities including savings accounts.
Managed Investment products.
Discretionary Investment Management facilities.
NZ and foreign direct bonds.
NZ and foreign direct equities.
KiwiSaver.
Superannuation.
The process that I follow involves the following six steps:
Initial discussion – we have a wide-ranging discussion designed to identify your needs and goals and confirm I have the expertise, experience and capability to proceed to an agreed scope of engagement.
Gather client information - in order to provide a personalized service, I work with you to learn more about your financial situation and goals. To turn your dreams into goals we work together to apply the SMART formula, where goals are:
Specific
Measuarable
Achievable
Relevant
Time-bound
Analysing and assessing information and needs – I undertake a comprehensive review of your income and expenditure, financial position, issues, risks and opportunities. In this phase I will identify any gaps between your current situation and your stated goals with a view to considering how you will achieve your goals.
Presenting and discussing your plan - I develop a written plan that accords with your stated goals, needs, priorities, risk profile and financial situation. The plan will contain recommendations and will cover the benefits and risks of implementation. Clients have complete discretion to implement or change any aspects of the plan.
Implement recommendations – I work with my client to implement the plan, This includes agreeing priorities, timelines and responsibilities.
Review – we agree a process and timeline for monitoring and reviewing the plan to ensure it remains appropriate due to changes in your personal situation and the economic environment.
It is good to have an initial face to face meeting either in my office or at my clients’ homes or premises. After this meeting, much of the follow-up work can be done by email, or phone. Unless it is at your request I do not handle your money. If funds are payable to or receivable from a third party product provider such as a Bank, Insurer or Fund Manager, I request clients pay funds directly into the providers’ nominated account and bank returns directly to your own nominated account. I will assist clients complete the documentation to achieve this outcome.
All client property will be held in the client’s name or in the name of a reputable custodian.
I avoid recommending complex or unusual products, services or solutions such as derivatives used for speculative purposes, and cryptocurrencies. This is because I believe most clients are better served with simple longer-term strategies, and short-term speculative activity is better suited to expert financiers.
Some questions my clients have asked me:
Do I need a financial plan?
What do I need to do to retire comfortably?
How can I diversify my portfolio?
Property v Shares - which is best for me?
How can I grow my net worth?
Whether you have a simple question such as these or need more complex financial advice, I am happy to help!
